Brooklyn, NY
(Sept. 22, 2018) – Purchase College opened Saturday night strong, leading by a goal at the break, but rival, Skyline Conference opponent St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) pulled out a 2-1 win in the second half behind a pair of scores.
In the process, the host Bears improved to 4-4 (1-0 SKY), dropping the Panthers to 0-4 (0-1 SKY).
The Panthers netted the game's first goal in the 33rd minute. A corner kick taken by PC freshman
Rebecca Colgan (Valley Stream, NY) resulted in a clamor for the ball inside the 18-yard box and a ricochet off of a Bear gave Purchase a 1-0 lead.
Despite being down 1-0 on the own goal, SJC led in shots (6-1) and corners (4-2) at the half as their offense was threatening early.
The Bears tied the game a little over 10 minutes into the second half. Deserae Sequeira hooked a shot into the right corner of the net off a throw in from Lisa Loschiavo.
Neither side could find an advantage until the 78th minute when another Loschiavo throw-in led Anisah Molic perfectly into a one-on-one in which she chipped the ball over the Panther keeper's head for the game winner.
The hosts held a 14-6 advantage in shots (7-3 on net). Purchase goalkeeper
Ashley Blom (JR/Bethpage, NY) recorded five saves on the night, while SJC goalie Reem Shaban tallied two, both in the second half.
The Panthers look to pick up a win on Monday when the team hosts non-conference Green Mountain College. The Purchase home opener is set to start at 4 p.m.
