Allentown, PA (Sept. 5, 2018) – Purchase College opened Wednesday evening strong, leading by a goal in the second half, but host rival, non-conference opponent Cedar Crest College pulled out a 2-1 win with a pair of goals in the final two minutes of action.
Both teams went scoreless in the first half. Purchase opened up scoring action after the break on a
Brittany Esposito (SR/Flushing, NY) free kick that was slotted in the top right corner of the net with just over 15 minutes remaining.
Cedar Crest would find the equalizer off of a free kick taken by sophomore midfielder Adrianna Tennis that took a bounce through the box before freshman forward Brittney Dunleavy got one past Panther netminder
Amber Yarter (JR/Albany, NY) with 2:43 remaining.
Tennis received an assist on the game winning goal scored by sophomore midfielder Erika D'Angelo. A corner kick that Tennis played short found the feet of D'Angelo, who turned to score from outside the 18-yard box with forty-seconds remaining in regulation.
Despite picking up the loss, Yarter totaled 10 saves for the Panthers—an impressive start to her junior campaign. Cedar Crest starting keeper Morgan Maddock had one save and earned her third victory of the season.
The Falcons fired 18 shots, with 12 being on goal and two finding the back of the net. The Panthers took just two shots, both on goal and one that got passed the keeper. Cedar Crest also led PC, 6-0, in corner kicks.
Purchase is back on the road this Saturday, Sept. 8, to face Manhattanville College. The non-conference matchup is slated for 1 p.m.
