Purchase, NY
(Sept. 8, 2018) – Manhattanville College recorded its first win of the season with a 2-0 non-conference victory over Purchase Saturday.
The Valiants improved to 1-2 overall. Purchase is now 0-2 on the fall.
The Valiants (1-2) controlled the action for the majority of the match, which remained scoreless until the 30th minute when senior defender Alex Gardner scored the first goal of her Valiants career, putting the ball past Purchase (0-2) junior goalkeeper
Amber Yarter (Albany, NY). Senior Lauren Vallarelli and sophomore Eileen Fiore each tallied an assist on the play.
Manhattanville kept up the offensive pressure, threatening again towards the end of the first half, but Yarter shut down junior forward Samira Davis on a breakaway opportunity that would have put the Valiants up by two.
The Valiants kept the pace up in the second half, sending six more shots toward the Purchase goal. Then in the 80th minute with Manhattanville still holding its one goal lead, Davis found another breakaway opportunity after receiving a pass from junior Sunny Tonnesen. Davis found the back of the net this time, scoring the putaway goal that would ultimately give the Valiants their first win of the 2018 campaign.
The Panthers return to action at Green Mountain on Sept. 15.
