Friday Night Stalemate: Panthers Draw 2-2

Purchase, NY (Sept. 7, 2018) – Purchase scored first Friday and appeared to record the game winner late, but the visiting City College of New York answered once more en route to a 2-2 draw.

The two teams battled throughout, culminating in a double overtime thriller that was marked by defense and a string of late second-half strikes.

Eslam Ellisy (SO/Nyack, NY) gave the hosts a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute of the first period on a breakaway. For Ellisy, it was his first goal of the season.

Purchase went into intermission holding that slim 1-0 advantage.

It stayed that way until the 73rd minute of the second half, when CCNY's Bubacarr Jaiteh notched his first goal of the season off a cross from Edgar Gutierrez.

The two teams looked destined for overtime, but a header from Purchase's Rob Cal (SR/Port Jervis, NY) only a minute later momentarily changed that script. His first goal of the fall was assisted by Yianni Amvrosiatos (SR/Warwick, NY) on a free kick.

The Panthers just needed to close out the final 15 minutes.

However, the Beavers responded once more. They scored in the 78th minute. Kevin Jusino recorded his first goal of the year to even the score at 2-2.

The two teams traded opportunities in the OT sessions, but neither side could come up with the game-winning goal.

The hosts held the advantage in shots (25-12) and corner kicks (6-1).

With the draw, Purchase is now 0-2-1. CCNY is also 0-2-1.

The Panthers are back in action next week at Lehman College.
