WAYNE, NJ - The Purchase College women's volleyball team was defeated at William Paterson University Friday night, dropping the non-conference match in straight sets.
Set scores for the contest were 25-14, 25-7, 25-9. With the result, Purchase is now 4-13 overall and the Pioneers improved to 9-7.Â
In the opening set, the two sides traded points back-and-forth, with the Panthers eventually holding an 8-7 lead in the frame.
However, three straight points gave the hosts a 10-8 lead, which they never relinquished the rest of the set. The Panthers kept the match close until they were down 16-13, then the Pioneers pulled away for the win by scoring nine of the final 10 points.
From there, William Paterson cruised over the second and third sets, finishing the match with a .329 hitting percentage and 32 kills. Meanwhile, the Panthers hit -.068 with 14 kills in the loss.Â
Joetta Francis (SR/New York, NY) led the team with four kills, while
Pamella Gonzalez (FR/Bronx, NY) recorded three kills, two aces and 11 digs.
Skyla Schoppmeyer (SO/Oakdale, NY) finished with 12 assists in the effort.
