Sarah Lawrence Rallies Late to Defeat Purchase 3-1

PURCHASE, NY – Sarah Lawrence College scored twice in the final minutes of action to defeat the Purchase women's soccer team, 3-1, in a Skyline Conference matchup Saturday afternoon. The visiting Gryphons move to 9-4 overall and 5-2 in Skyline play, while the Panthers drop to 6-4, 2-3 in the league.

Sarah Lawrence's Haley Willibey scored the game-winner in the 86th minute. The rookie midfielder broke a 1-1 tie with an unassisted shot that bounced off the left goal post and into the back of the net.

Tiffany McBrayer tacked on an insurance goal for the Gryphons at 87:48 to give the visitors a 3-1 edge just in time for the final whistle.

Purchase opened the game strong, holding an 11-6 shot advantage over the Gryphons in the first half. After the break, however, Sarah Lawrence ignited to close the final 45 minutes with a 25-5 advantage in shots and 4-0 edge in corner kicks.

Senior tri-captain and forward Ashley Blom (Bethpage, NY) was the lone scorer for Purchase, finding the back of the net in the 29th minute to even the score at one-apiece. Blom one-timed it from the top of the six-yard box off a short cross from sophomore forward Rebecca Colgan (Valley Stream, NY).

Senior goalkeeper Amber Yarter (Albany, NY) recorded an impressive 12 saves for Purchase. Despite her efforts, Yarter was tagged with the loss and moves to 5-4 overall.

The Panthers look to bounce back from Saturday's loss when they take to the road on Wednesday to face the College of Mount Saint Vincent. The Skyline matchup is slated for 4 p.m.
