PURCHASE, NY - The Purchase College women's tennis team lost a Skyline Conference match at Manhattanville College Tuesday afternoon, 5-3.
With the result, the Panthers dropped to 2-7 overall and 2-3 in the conference, while the Valiants improved to 4-5 and 3-3 respectively.
The #3 doubles duo of
Marissa Woods (SO/Deer Park, NY) and
Nicole Sliwinski (JR/Newington, CT) secured the first victory of the afternoon for Purchase, 8-4.
Manhattanville then responded by winning the final two doubles contests and the #6 singles match to jump in front, 3-1.
Sliwinski secured another victory for the guests, this time at #5 singles, as she topped her opponent, 6-1, 6-3.
But from there, the Valiants took the #4 and #3 singles matches to secure the five wins needed for the team win. However, that didn't stop
Bianca Harris (SO/Montgomery, NY) from battling back to earn a win at the #1 singles spot, 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (11-9).
The #2 singles match involving
Raquelle DeCicco (JR/Kingston, NY) was called before it could finish due to darkness and the overall result having already been decided.
Up next for the Panthers is their toughest test of the season, a road matchup at Farmingdale State on October 18th at 3 p.m. The Rams enter that contest 13-1 overall and 6-0 in the Skyline.
