Women's Soccer Closes Home Slate with League Loss

PURCHASE, NY – On a rain-soaked Tuesday evening, the undefeated Mount Saint Mary Knights put away four second-half goals to defeat the Purchase College women's soccer team, 5-0.

In defeat, the host Panthers drop to 7-5 overall and 3-4 in the Skyline Conference, while MSMC moves to 7-8 overall and 7-0 in the league.

Despite a valiant effort by the Panthers, the Knights rallied around a Nikki Carter score in the 10th minute. Her third goal of the season paved the way for the win, with MSMC padding the narrow 1-0 first half lead on second-half goals from Chrissy Canella (49th minute), Liz Ellsworth (60th), Maggie-Ann Zecca (79th) and Marilena Mangiaracina (87th), respectively.

Mount Saint Mary held a 35-4 shot advantage (20-2 on goal), led by Canella with six shots.

Panther netminder Amber Yarter (SR/Albany, NY) recorded an impressive 15 stops in net despite being tagged with the loss. MSMC goalie Cyan Scott totaled two saves to earn the shutout victory.

Up next, Purchase will head to Farmingdale State on Saturday to take on the Rams at 12 p.m.
