Panthers Fall at Farmingdale

PURCHASE, NY – Farmingdale State picked up its ninth shutout win of the season Saturday afternoon after downing the visiting Purchase College women's soccer team, 8-0, in Skyline Conference action.

The host Rams (10-5-3, 7-0-1 SKY) opened the first half with a trio of goals. With the assist from Edasia Martinez, Brittney Starzee broke the scoring ice for the game at 5:27. Minutes later, she found the back of the net again thanks to the combined assists from Martinez and Celine Cannizzaro. Kristina Sommer capped the scoring in the opening 45 minutes with a goal at 33:42 off the assist of Brianna Gilbert.

Purchase (7-6, 3-5 SKY) was held to just a single shot in the first half.

Cailyn Demarinis and Julissa Martinez would combine for Farmingdale's five goals in the second half. Martinez recorded the first two at 47:11 and 63:20, respectively, while Martinez produced a hat trick to close out the scoring and secure the 8-0 victory.

Purchase senior goalkeeper Amber Yarter (Albany, NY) totaled 15 saves in 90 minutes of action as her record drops to an even .500 (6-6).

The Panthers, eager for a win and a spot in the Skyline postseason tournament, return to action on Monday, Oct. 28 at the College of Mount Saint Vincent. The game, originally scheduled for Oct. 16 and later Oct. 17, will kickoff at 3:30 p.m.
