PURCHASE, NY – Purchase sophomore
Rebecca Colgan found the back of the net in the 81st minute to give the Panthers a 3-2 edge over the City College of New York Tuesday evening. The Panthers improve to 6-3 overall, while the visiting Beavers drop to 5-7 on the season.
Colgan's game-winning goal pushed the Valley Stream, NY native's hat trick tally to five this season—the most in program history for a single season.
The opening 40 minutes of play went scoreless until CCNY's Susan Aracena broke the ice with a goal at 41:42. Aracena placed a long shot, high to the far post from outside the 18-yard box.
At the half, Purchase held a 9-5 advantage in shots despite trailing 1-0 in the game.
The next 45 minutes played out differently with a combined four goals. Purchase tied the game, 1-1, in the 53rd minute, thanks to the unassisted left corner shot by Colgan.
Less than four minutes later, Colgan netted her second, pushing the Panthers' out in front, 2-1. The standout forward slipped past the Beaver defense and found the back of the net after a 1v1 with CCNY keeper Catherine Langkamp.
Beaver forward Maria Tomais evened the score in the 74th minute with a shot that rebounded off the crossbar and over the goal line.
Colgan broke the 2-2 tie and punched in her hat trick off a cross from senior midfielder
Brett Robison (Franklin Square, NY) at 81:34.
Purchase outshot the Beavers 19-13 (10-6 on goal) and held a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Senior netminder
Amber Yarter (Albany, NY) picked up four saves in the win. Langkamp recorded seven saves in defeat.
Purchase continues its homestead this week when Skyline rival Sarah Lawrence College comes to town on Saturday afternoon.
