(Feb. 6, 2019) – Purchase women's basketball celebrated National Women in Sports Day with a triumphant 72-41 victory over the non-conference Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Wednesday night.
Senior guard
Amber Jones (Bronx, NY) broke open the scoring in the first quarter with a jumper in the paint. Both teams exchanged basketball throughout the stanza before closing in Purchase's favor, 15-12.
Purchase continued to heat up and kept the fire going with a notable 28 points in the second quarter.
The visitors tied the game at 17-all with a 3-pointer from Emma Webster at 8:51, but Purchase quickly answered with a jumper from senior guard
Nadia Shadi (New York, NY) to take back the lead.
From that point, Purchase never rescinded the lead and closed the half with a 43-21 advantage over Albany Pharmacy.
The Panthers shot an impressive 81.3 percent (7-of-19) in the quarter, including three buckets from beyond the arc.
Albany Pharmacy clawed at Purchase's 22-point halftime advantage with back-to-back layups in the opening minutes of the third quarter.
Despite its lowest scoring period, Purchase still outshot Albany 14-12 to take a 57-33 leading heading into the final 10 minutes.
Junior forward
Arta Krasniqi (Bronx, NY) netted back-to-back 3's to push Purchase to 63 points at 7:20. With under two minutes remaining, a Shadi jumper stretched PC's lead to the most of the night (33), en route to the final 72-41 victory.
Purchase is back at home again this Saturday at noon to take on Skyline rival St. Joseph's College (LI).
