Game Recap: Men's Volleyball | | Breann McKeon

In a Hard Fought Match, Purchase Falls to NJCU

Purchase, N.Y.— Despite an intense competitive performance from both teams, Purchase men's volleyball fell to non-conference competitor New Jersey City University on Thursday night, as the visiting Knights won three sets of four.

New Jersey City opened the match strong as they maintained a lead through the entirety of the first set. The Knights were fighting for the first match point with a score of 24-10 but a service error gave possession back to Purchase.

The Panthers used this to their advantage to then earn six consecutive points until an attack error ended their run, only handing Jersey City the first set win with a score of 25-16.

The boost proved to overlap for Purchase as the scoring of both teams seesawed for 16 points in through the first half of set two. The Panthers then broke the tie as a Jersey City attack error put them ahead and held a lead to seal the set two win, 25-20.

The competition continued to be close throughout set three after continuous scoring put the two teams at a tie of 22 points. A service error and an attack error from Purchase put Jersey City ahead at 24-22, but the Panthers answered with a kill from Jeremiah Huntt (FR/Bronx, N.Y.)  making the score 24-23. The Knights closed the set with a 25-23 win after another Purchase service error.

Jersey City finished with the same intensity as the first set, sealing the victory with a final score of 25-19 in set four.

Johnathan Andrews (SO/North Bergen, N.J.) and Leo Ferrari (FR/Kearny, N.J.) each earned ten digs to contribute to the Knights win. Julian Moreira (JR/JR/Miami, FL) earned the game high 10 kills.

Senior outside hitter Luke Kubisch (Delmar, N.Y.) ended the night with an impressive eight kills, two aces and two blocks. Joey Dyckman (FR/Verplanck, N.Y.), who was named one of the top Panther athletes of the week, had 15 digs.

The Panthers will head into another non-conference match as they travel to face John Jay on Feb. 14 at 7 p.m.
