Men's Volleyball Extends Winning Streak, Shuts Out Lehman 3-0

Purchase, NY (Mar. 13, 2019) – The Purchase College men's volleyball team pushed its winning streak to three straight matches with a 3-0 victory over Lehman College at home Wednesday evening. The Panthers defeated the non-conference Lightning by scores of 25-10, 26-24 and 25-14. 

With the win, Purchase advances its record to 5-12 overall, while Lehman drops to 3-12 in defeat.

Senior co-captain Luke Kubisch (Delmar, NY) and junior middle Thomas Slomka (Orchard Park, NY) guided the Panther offense as the duo combined for 16 kills and 20 points. Junior co-captain Andreo Otiniano (Mamaroneck, NY) raked in a match-high 24 assists, four service aces and six kills, while freshman outside hitter Joey Dyckman (Verplanck, NY) led all players with an impressive 10 digs. Panther freshman Jeremiah Huntt (Bronx, NY) chipped in with five kills, five digs and two solo blocks.

In Game 1, Purchase jumped out to an 8-2 lead on combined kills from Juntt, Slomka and Otiniano. Kubisch opned the run with a service ace (3-2). The Panthers carried the lead throughout the set, stretching it to 22-9 on a Huntt service ace. PC closed the set with three unanswered points to take the 25-10 win.

The second set was the difference in the match as Purchase and Lehman fought through five tied scores and six lead changes before the Panthers pulled away down the stretch on a Lightning error and service ace by Panther freshman Matthew Waterhouse (Rochester, NY) for the 26-24 victory.

Purchase lit up the board first in the third set on a Lehman error. The Panthers stretched their advantage to double digits (18-8) on an Otiniano service ace. PC held its lead and went on to close the set, 25-14.

Purchase returns to action next week at York College. The non-conference match is slated for 7 p.m.
