(March 27, 2019) – St. Joseph's College (LI) hit .263 and knocked down 30 kills to defeat the Purchase men's volleyball team, 3-0, Wednesday evening at the Danzi Center. The host Golden Eagles took the match by set scores of 25-8, 25-13 and 25-18.
SJC improves to 16-4 on the season and remains undefeated, 4-0, in Skyline action. Purchase drops to 7-14 overall and an even 2-2 in the league.
The home team opened with its best hitting percentage (.364) and held Purchase to just two kills on 17 attempts in the first set. SJC's offense combined for six of its 13 kills in the opening stanza and continued to fire away in the second and third set, combining for 20 kills and seven aces.
Paul Curaro led the Golden Eagles with a match-high seven aces. He totaled four kills on 13 attempts with just one error (.231), while Matthew Amberge led the team in kills (6) and recorded a notable .556 attacking percentage. Setters Jason Siriban and Michael Lane dished 14 assists each with the latter serving up five aces. Danny McNamera scooped a team-best six digs.

Jeremiah Huntt (FR/Bronx, NY) tied the match-best with six kills to go along with two digs and a pair of blocks.
Luke Kubisch (SR/Delmar, NY) chipped in with four kills, six digs and two blocks, while
Andreo Otiniano (JR/Mamaroneck, NY),
Thomas Slomka (JR/Orchard Park, NY) and
Joe Higgins (FR/College Point, NY) rounded out the kills for Purchase with one each. Otiniano finished with a team-best 10 assists and
Joey Dyckman (FR/Verplanck, NY) led the team in digs (11).
Purchase will face SJC again this Sunday, as both teams head to Yeshiva University for a Skyline tri-match starting at 10 a.m. The Panthers will play in the later matches (12 and 2 p.m.).
