New York, NY – The Purchase College men's volleyball team split a Skyline Conference tri-match hosted by Yeshiva University on Sunday. The Panthers opened the day with a 3-0 (25-2, 25-10, 25-18) loss to the undefeated Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's College (L.I.) before bouncing back to defeat the host Maccabees, 3-1 (25-27, 27-25, 25-21, 28-26), in the second match of the day.
Jeremiah Huntt (FR/Bronx, NY) led the team in kills with a combined 21 over the seven sets. The rookie right side tallied a season-best 17 kills in the match against Yeshiva.
Andreo Otiniano (JR/Mamaroneck, NY) assisted on 41 of Purchase's 53 total kills. The veteran setter produced a season-high 33 assists against the Maccabees, to go along with five aces in the same match.
Joey Dyckman (FR/Verplanck, NY) and
Thomas Palko (FR/Southington, CT) paced the Panther defense with 25 digs apiece. Dyckman totaled 10 stops against SJC and 15 against Yeshiva, while Palko had nine and 16, respectively.
Purchase moves to 8-15 overall and an even .500 (3-3) in Skyline play. The Panthers return home this Thursday to host the Gryphons of Sarah Lawrence College. The league match is set for 7 p.m.
