Purchase, NY
(Mar. 8, 2019) – Purchase College men's lacrosse used a second half surge to secure a 19-11 victory over visiting Albertus Magnus in the Panther home opener Friday evening.
Purchase (1-1) picked up its first win of the season in the non-conference decision. In defeat, Albertus drops to 0-1.
Nine different Panthers contributed in the scoring effort. Junior attacker
Dan Ohrem (Ridgefield, CT) led the charge with a career-best seven goals.

The visiting Falcons opened action with a goal scored by James May in the second minute. They continued to build a lead as they added two more goals over the next two minutes.

Ohrem responded by putting the Panthers on the board with two goals. Sophomore midfielder
Zach Zarella (SO/Leominster, MA) assisted the second of the two goals.

Scoring continued for both teams, resulting in a 5-4 lead for Albertus Magnus at the end of the first quarter.

A defensive second quarter on both sides of the field kept the scoring low. With four minutes remaining in the period, Purchase tied the game at 6-apiece on a
Ayotunde Otuyelu (FR/Staten Island, NY) goal. The tally, which was assisted by freshman
Christian Ishoo (FR/Tarry Town, NY), was a career-first for Otuyelu.

In the last minute of the half, Albertus Magnus' Christopher Magnifico put one behind the net to end the first half of play with a lead of 7-6.

After halftime the Panthers came back on fire, scoring six unanswered in the third quarter. Ohrem netted a hat trick in the quarter alone, and Otuyelo,
Isaac Aguero (SR/Bronx, NY), and
Brady Fahy (SR/Rochester, NY) each added one, respectively.

This gave Purchase a lead the Falcons could not recover from, as the Panthers scored another seven points in the fourth, securing the 19-11 win.

Zarella,
Stephen Javakian (FR/Long Beach, NY) and
Ben Erkan (SO/Bellport, NY) also recorded goals in Friday's victory, while sophomore midfielder
Joseph Ely (Red Hook, NY) scooped an impressive 10 ground balls.
Junior goalkeeper
Matt Sayegh (Hopewell Junction, NY) (1-1) collected three saves en route to his first win of the season.

Purchase will remain home to face SUNY Delhi on Sunday at 1 p.m.
