Purchase Defeated Twice at SUNY New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. - The Purchase College softball team lost a pair of contests Wednesday afternoon, as SUNY New Paltz topped the Panthers, 8-0 and 13-0, in a non-conference matchup.

From the start of the day, the Hawks of New Paltz (18-7) were in control. The hosts grabbed an early game one lead with a run in the second inning, before the bats erupted for seven runs in the third.

The Panthers (7-15) meanwhile, were limited to just three hits in the loss, as New Paltz starting pitcher, Katie Quagliana (FR/East Amherst, NY), stymied the offense throughout. Quagliana tossed four shutout innings for the Hawks and collected her 10th win of the season along the way.

For Purchase, Kelly Agostini (SO/Centereach, NY) received the loss, while Victoria Capone-Froio (SR/Yonkers, NY), Cassidy Montes (SO/Yonkers, NY) and Kaitlyn Antonelli (SO/Yonkers, NY) each collected a hit in the effort.

In game two, things didn't improve for the Panthers, as they fell 13-0. The offensive struggles continued for the visitors, as they were limited to just one hit in the loss. Montes provided the hit and was tagged for the loss on the mound for Purchase.

As for the Hawks, the hosts scored one in the first inning and three in the second, before exploding for seven runs in the third. Sophomore Emily Fox (Commack, NY) collected the win for New Paltz. She pitched four shutout innings and fanned six.

Up next for the Panthers is a return to Skyline Conference play, as they host Mount Saint Mary College on April 12th in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m. and you can follow it here.
