Women's Lacrosse Defeated by Maritime College

PURCHASE, N.Y - The Purchase College women's lacrosse team fell to Maritime College Thursday, 18-4, in a Skyline Conference matchup.

The Panthers dropped to 1-9 overall and 0-6 in the league with the loss. Meanwhile, the Privateers of Maritime improved to 7-5 and 3-3.

From the opening draw, the Privateers dominated the match. The guests scored four times within the first ten minutes, and outscored Purchase, 11-0, during the opening half.

However, despite the deficit, the Panthers never quit. They continued to battle and were rewarded in the second half with four goals.

Gabriella Castles (SO/Bethpage, NY) got things started with a strike within the first minute. Later in the frame, she scored twice more, including a man-down goal. Sigrid Cassell (FR/Huntington, NY) scored the other goal for the Panthers in the effort.

Castles also added six ground balls and caused two turnovers, while Cassell collected three ground balls and caused three turnovers of her own. Maddy Mecca (SO/Oceanside, NY) won three draw controls and picked up three ground balls for Purchase in the loss.

For the Privateers, Catherine Pfundstein (SR/Deer Park, NY) and Krista Deleva (SR/Sound Beach, NY) powered the win, as each player finished with six goals and two assists apiece.

Up next for the Panthers is the final game of the seaso, as they host United States Merchant Marine Academy on April 26th at 7 p.m. The contest will also serve as Senior Day for Alex Youre-Moses, Samantha Robinson and Danielle Sarubbi. You can follow that game live here via Live Stats.
