PATCHOGUE, N.Y. - The Purchase College softball team lost twice Saturday afternoon, falling to St. Joseph's College - Long Island, 8-1 and 9-0, in a Skyline doubleheader.
With the losses, the Panthers are now 9-21 overall and 4-10 in the conference. The Golden Eagles meanwhile, are now 19-13 and 13-3.
It didn't take the hosts long to open the scoring in game one, as St. Joseph's scored twice in the bottom of the first. After a few innings of scoreless play, the Golden Eagles added two more runs in the fifth.
The Panthers got one run back in the top of the sixth, as
Kelly Hayes tripled in
Mae Testa Feliciano, but that was all they got on the afternoon. In the bottom half of the frame, the hosts added four more runs to make it, 8-1, where it finished.
Catherine Zucker (FR/North Babylon, NY) collected the win for St. Joseph's, as she went all seven innings, struck out nine and allowed just five hits.
Kelly Agostini (SO/Centereach, NY) received the loss for Purchase.
Hayes led the Panther offense with two hits and the RBI in the effort.
Daniella Edelson (SR/Hopewell Junction, NY),
Kaitlyn Antonelli (SO/Yonkers, NY) and Feliciano each finished with a hit apiece for the guests.
In game two, things unfortunately didn't improve for the Panthers, as they fell 9-0.
Katelynn Valente (SO/Levittown, NY) limited Purchase to just three hits in the loss, as she tossed a five-inning complete game. While Valente dominated on the mound for the Golden Eagles, their offense was equally as dominant, scoring four runs in the first, one in the second, three in the third and another in fourth.
Lyndsay Smocer (SR/Hauppauge, NY) led the offensive charge for the hosts with two hits and three RBIs in the win.
For Purchase, Edelson, Agostini and Feliciano each finished with a hit, while
Cassidy Montes (SO/Yonkers, NY) was tagged with the loss.
