PURCHASE, NY – Panther baseball wrapped up 2019 action with a Skyline Conference doubleheader against Mount Saint Mary College Monday evening. Purchase dropped the opener, 2-0, but bounced back in game two with a 9-0 shutout.
The split concludes the season for the Panthers at 17-18 overall and 7-11 in the league.
Game One: Mount Saint Mary 2, Purchase 0
The Mount scratched out a run in the first inning on a John Santana RBI double that drove in Steven Mirra, who reached on a one out walk.
The Knights added a second run in the bottom of the fifth when Robert Brust scored on a Purchase fielding error.
Purchase's best scoring opportunity was in the top of the seventh as 
Nick Lasala (JR/Massapequa Park, NY) and 
Glennd Jarrin (SO/Bronx, NY) led off with back to back singles. Following a sacrifice bunt, Sal Rizzo got two flyouts that couldn't produce a run to end the threat.
Rizzo earned the win as he threw eight shutout innings, allowing six hits while striking out six. Matthew Borriello picked up his first save of the season after tossing a scoreless ninth. Santana finished the game 2-for-3 with a RBI and Jack Goodwin added two hits for the Mount.
CJ Owens (JR/Ridge, NY) took the tough luck loss as he finished with a complete game, allowing six hits on two runs (one earned) over eight innings. 
Patrick Wallace (JR/Manorville, NY) and Lasala each finished with two hits for Purchase.
Game Two: Purchase 9, Mount Saint Mary 0
The Panthers scored early and often in game two as they jumped out a 2-0 lead following an error that scored both Wallace and Lasala. 
Dylan Flynn (SO/Hauppauge, NY) added a RBI single in the second to add a third run.
A 
Brian Cunningham (SR/Westbury, NY) RBI single added a run in the third and another RBI single by Flynn pushed the lead to five in the fourth inning.
Purchase added four runs in the fifth as 
Gregory Walsh (SR/Bethpage, NY) had a two RBI single and Flynn knocked in his third and fourth runs of the game on a triple to right center.
Anthony Collura took the loss for the Knights as he pitched three innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits and struck out two. Joe Galasso and Ryan Larkin combined for two scoreless innings in relief. Mirra, Santana and Coleman Barnes each had a hit for the Mount.
Nicholas Torres (JR/Cornwall, NY) earned the complete game shutout for Purchase as he allowed only three hits while striking out six. Flynn finished 3-for-4 with four RBI, Cunningham was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and Walsh added two hits, two runs scored and two RBI.
