NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Purchase College softball team breezed to a pair of wins Friday afternoon, as the Panthers topped Yeshiva University, 19-2 and 15-4, in a Skyline Conference matchup.
With the wins, Purchase is now 7-11 overall and 4-4 in conference play. Meanwhile, Yeshiva dropped to 1-17 and 0-10.
From the first pitch of the afternoon, it was off to the races for the Panther bats. The guests scored twice in the first inning, twice in the second, five in the third and one in the fourth to go up, 10-0.Â
After the Maccabees of Yeshiva managed two runs in the bottom of the fourth, Purchase responded with nine more runs in the fifth, making it a 19-2 contest.
Kelly Agostini (SO/Centereach, NY) finished with the victory for Purchase, after she went all five innings and struck out four.
However, the story of the game and the day as a whole, was the Panthers' offense. The Panthers finished with 19 runs on 20 hits in the effort, as six players tallied at least two hits in the game one win.Â
Kelly Hayes (SR/Staten Island, NY) led the team with four hits, three RBIs and three runs.
Victoria Capone-Froio (SR/Yonkers, NY) and
Cassidy Montes (SO/Yonkers, NY) each added three hits and three RBIs apiece, while Agostini chipped in three hits, two RBIs and two runs.
In game two, the offensive explosion continued for Purchase, as they topped Yeshiva, 15-4. After a scoreless first inning, which was the only inning of the day that the Panthers didn't score a run, the guests came back with four runs in the second.Â
The Maccabees' offense was able to mount a comeback this time though, as the hosts knocked in four runs of their own in the second, providing the first and only tie score of the day.Â
But just as quickly as Yeshiva was able to tie the contest, Purchase took the lead right back.
In the third, an RBI groundout from
Danielle Morelli (FR/Riverdale, NY) made it 5-4 in favor of the Panthers. An inning later, Agostini hit an RBI groundout to further extend the Purchase advantage, before the guests regained their game one offensive form once more.
That form came out with a vengeance in the fifth, as Purchase scored nine runs in the frame to seal their victory. Agostini picked up her second win of the day, as she went three innings and allowed just one earned run on five hits. Meanwhile, Montes collected the save after she pitched the final two innings.
Capone-Froio powered the offense in the game two win, as she finished with three hits, three RBIs and three runs.
Daniella Edelson (SR/Hopewell Junction, NY) added two hits and three RBIs, while Montes and
Mae Testa Feliciano (FR/Brooklyn, NY) each tallied two hits apiece in the effort.
Up next for the Panthers is a home Skyline doubleheader against Farmingdale State on April 7th. First pitch of game one is set for 11 a.m. and you can follow the results here.Â
