MORRISTOWN, NJ – The Purchase College women's soccer team posted a strong showing in its season debut, shutting out the College of St. Elizabeth, 1-0, at CSE Soccer Stadium on Friday evening.
Senior midfielder and tri-captain
Brett Robison (Franklin Square, NY) scored the lone goal for the Panthers in the 65th minute. With an assist from junior defender
Allie Scarpa (Vineland, NJ), Robison took advantage of a deflection off a CSE Eagle defender and ripped a shot into the lower left 90 for her 18th career goal.
Forced to push the pace, St. Elizabeth worked diligently in getting the equalizer. The Eagles had two golden opportunities with back-to-back shots in the 66th minute, but a save from senior netminder
Amber Yarter (Albany, NY) kept Purchase's clean sheet alive.
The Panthers started pushing forward more, forcing seven saves out of Eagle goalkeeper Haley Baron, to close out the match.
Purchase held a 24-4 shot advantage (16-1 on goal), led by Robison and freshman forward
Michelle Gomez (Oceanside, NY) with six shots each.
Yarter finished with one save over the 90 minutes and now owns eight career shutouts.
Purchase will continue its road swing next week by heading down to Brooklyn, NY to face Medgar Evers College on Sept. 10. The non-conference game is slated for 7 p.m.
