PURCHASE, NY – Behind a hat trick performance from sophomore sensation
Rebecca Colgan, the Purchase College women's soccer team improved to 3-0 on the young season with a 3-1 win over Brooklyn College in the Panther home opener Thursday night.
The victory marks the first time in over a decade that Purchase has won three games in three tries to open the season.
Colgan (SO/Valley Stream, NY) opened the scoring for the game in the first half on the assist from
Allie Scarpa (JR/Vineland, NJ).
Entering Thursday's contest having yet to concede a goal in two games, Panther standout
Amber Yarter (SR/Albany, NY) saw her scoreless streak snapped after Brooklyn took advantage of a penalty kick opportunity at 56:10. The goal tied the game at one apiece.
Purchase wasted no time answering back as Colgan netted the eventual game-winner at 56:54. Teammate
Lauren Pudelka (FR/Danbury, CT) carried the ball from midfield, down the right side of PC's attacking third and sent a long cross to the top of the 18-yard box.
Michelle Gomez (FR/Oceanside, NY) got a touch on the ball before setting Colgan up for the shot that slipped past the Brooklyn netminder, off the far post and into the lower left corner of the net.
Gomez later dished out the assist on Colgan's third goal and final for the evening.
Yarter, who made seven saves on the evening, picked up the win to improve to 3-0 on the year.
The Panthers look to keep the hot streak rolling when they head to New Jersey City University next Wednesday for a non-conference game starting at 4 p.m.
