BROOKLYN, NY -
Rolando Osguera might have to change his name to "Ronaldo" after his performance Tuesday night.
The sophomore tallied two goals, an assist and led the Purchase College men's soccer team to 3-2 win over St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn in the Skyline Conference opener.Â
Osguera (Mount Vernon, NY) did all of his damage in the first half, scoring his first goal in the 13th minute on an individual effort. 10 minutes later, he collected an assist, when freshman Andrew Dubron (Centereach, NY) scored for the Panthers.
In the 34th minute, Osguera added his second goal of the night off a feed from
Juan Arboleda (JR/New Rochelle, NY), putting the guests in front for good.Â
While Purchase (2-2 overall, 1-0 Sky) finished with the win, it was actually the Bears of St. Joseph's (1-6, 0-1 Sky) who struck first and last in the contest.
In the eighth minute, Thomas Mastoras (SR/Bayside, NY) converted a solo effort to open the scoring, before Joseph Sepulveda (SO/East Elmhurst, NY) found the back of net in the 80th to cut the deficit to 3-2.Â
However, the Panthers' defense held firm the rest of the way, allowing the guests to escape with a crucial Skyline road win.Â
On the night,
Mario Olmedo (FR/East Elmhurst, NY) finished with two saves and the victory. Alejandro Oliveros (JR/Brooklyn, NY) recorded six saves in the effort for St. Joseph's-Brooklyn.Â
Up next for the Panthers is more Skyline action, as the team travels to Patchogue, NY to face St. Joseph's-Long Island on September 21st. That game is set to begin at noon and you can follow it here.Â
