PURCHASE, NY - The Purchase College men's soccer team is developing a knack for theatrics, as the Panthers secured their third straight comeback win Monday night, topping Brooklyn College in double overtime, 2-1.
Sophomore
Jasper Ehrhardt (Brooklyn, NY) was the hero, as he scored off a through ball feed into the penalty box from
Brandon Balcaceres (FR/Farmingdale, NY) in the 105th minute.
Balcaceres sent in the cross from 45 yards out on the right side, directly into the heart of the defense. Ehrhardt used his speed and knowledge and timed his run perfectly, getting pass Brooklyn's backline with just the keeper to beat.Â
After making a couple of strides, the freshman slipped a low, ground shot directly under the charging keeper's body for the win.Â
As the ball rolled in, the Purchase sideline erupted and rushed the field to mob Ehrhardt, as the team improved to 4-2 on the year. On the other sideline though, Brooklyn was left crushed, as the guests fell to 0-7 overall.
The thrilling finish epitomized the evening in the end, as both sides created scoring chances throughout. The Bulldogs struck first on the night, when Alex Zecena (JR/ Sao Paolo, Brazil) found the back of net in the 31st minute.Â
However, 10 minutes later, Purchase got on the board curiosity of another through ball linkup. This one was setup by
Ethan Dillon (FR/Poughkeepsie, NY), who found a streaking
Rolando Osguera (SO/Mount Vernon, NY) on a long cross in. After Osguera collected the ball, he raced in from the left side and took a wonderful curling, power shot. Brooklyn's keeper managed to get his fingertips on the blast, but it had enough power on it to find the top right corner, tying the contest.Â
Other scoring chances on the night included a pair of goal line saves by the Panthers' defense, one goal line save for Brooklyn and what could have been the game-winning goal in the 103rd minute fromÂ
Eslam Ellisy (JR/Nyack, NY), but Brooklyn's keeper made an outstanding point-blank save in the box.Â
Possession between the two squads was nearly identical, but the Panthers paced the Bulldogs with a 29-13 shot differential.Â
In goal,
Mario Olmedo (FR/East Elmhurst, NY) finished with three saves, while Lorenzo Davies (SO/Flushing, NY) collected five saves in the effort.Â
Up next for the Panthers is non-conference road matchup, as the team travels north to take on Bard College. That contest is set to begin at 7 p.m. on September 25th and you can follow it here.Â
