PURCHASE, NY - The Purchase College women's tennis team suffered a home defeat Tuesday afternoon, as the Baruch College Bearcats topped the Panthers, 7-2.
Junior
Raquelle DeCicco (Kingston, NY) earned the first Purchase win at the #2 singles spot, taking her contest 6-3, 6-2.
Sonja Boyko (FR/Babylon, NY), in the #4 singles spot, provided the other bright spot in the match for the Panthers, as she earned her first collegiate victory in marathon fashion. After winning the first set, 6-4, Boyko dropped the second to setup a third frame tiebreaker.
In the ensuing frame, Boyko managed to outlast her opposition, 10-5, and secured her first collegiate triumph as a result.
Besides that though, Baruch College (2-1) was rock-solid throughout. The Bearcats didn't drop a set in any of the other singles matches and took all three doubles contests with relative ease.
Purchase (0-3) will look to get in the win column later this week, as the Panthers begin Skyline Conference action by hosting Yeshiva on September 19th. That match is set to begin at 5 p.m.
