Men's Soccer Outlasts SJC-Long Island, 3-2

PATCHOGUE, NY - The Purchase College men's soccer team secured a deja vu victory Saturday afternoon, as it topped a team that has St. Joseph's College in its name by the mark of 3-2 for the second time in five days.

On September 17th, the Panthers topped SJC-Brooklyn on the road, before following up that performance with another road win today against St. Joseph's College-Long Island.

Just like the other night, Purchase (3-2 overall, 2-0 SKY) fell behind early, this time on an own goal in the second minute. However, the guests continued to battle on and were rewarded in the 19th minute, when Juan Arboleda (JR/New Rochelle, NY) caused a turnover in SJC's defensive zone and then blasted a shot in from the top of the penalty box.

Over the rest of the first half, Purchase produced better and more chances than the Golden Eagles (1-5, 1-1), but still entered the break tied. But in the second half, the guests were able to change that quickly with two strikes in the first 13 minutes of the frame.

The first came in 52nd minute, as Brandon Balcaceres (FR/Farmingdale, NY) scored in the box off a cross from Rolando Osguera (SO, Mount Vernon, NY), who was the hero against SJC-Brooklyn the other day. Six minutes later, Osguera collected his second assist of the match, as he found Jasper Ehrhardt (JR/Brooklyn, NY) in dangerous territory.

Ehrhardt made the Golden Eagles pay, as he unleashed a curling shot from the left of goal into the top right corner, putting the Panthers ahead 3-1.

In the 67th minute, the Golden Eagles cut the deficit to 3-2 with a bit of luck, as Purchase's clearance attempt ricocheted off Golden Eagles defender Dylan Trude (JR/Rocky Point, NY) and bounced into goal.

However, the Panthers were able to hold St. Joseph's College off the board the rest of the way and secured another road Skyline win. The guests outshot the Golden Eagles, 16-6, in the win.

Mario Olmedo (FR/East Elmhurst, NY) finished with one save for Purchase, while Tyler Flarherty (JR/Manorville, NY) collected six saves in the effort.

Up next for PC is a return to non-conference action, as they host Brooklyn College on September 23rd at 7 p.m. You can follow that game right here.
