PURCHASE, NY - The Purchase College women's soccer team fell in its Skyline Conference opening match Saturday, as the Panthers were edged by St. Joseph's College-Long Island, 3-0.
With the result, Purchase is now 3-2 overall. Meanwhile, the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's College improved to 4-3-1 overall and 2-0 in the Skyline.
The guests managed to strike early in the contest, as Jaclyn O'Shaughnessy (SR/Holbrook, NY) converted a penalty attempt in the 14th minute, which had been setup by a handball in the box. Later in the half, the Golden Eagles doubled their advantage off an impressive run by Abbey Curcio (FR/Miller Place, NY), who scored after beating everyone in a foot race from midfield.
The Panthers tried to rally in the second half, but the guests were able to control the ball and possession throughout much the frame. All that possession eventually led to one final goal in the 63rd minute, when Savannah McMaster (SO/Nesconset, NY) finished off a ground cross into the penalty box.
It was a tough outing on the day for the hosts, as they managed just six shots (three on goal) all game.
Amber Yarter (SR/Albany, NY) finished with 11 saves in the effort.
The Panthers will look to get back on track on September 26th at Yeshiva University. That Skyline Conference match is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. and you can follow it here.
