Women's Tennis Nets First Win

Panthers Sweep Sarah Lawrence, 9-0

PURCHASE, NY – The Purchase College women's tennis team earned its first win of the season with a 9-0 sweep over Skyline Conference opponent Sarah Lawrence College Tuesday afternoon.

With the win, the Panthers move to 1-4 overall and an even 1-1 in league action. The visiting Gryphons drop to 0-6, 0-2 in defeat.

Purchase jumped out to a 3-0 lead following doubles play. At the top flight, the Panther duo of Bianca Harris (SO/Montgomery, NY) and Raquelle DeCicco (JR/Kingston, NY) shutout Sam Nochimson and Ruth Doberen, 8-0. Isabel Biagiotti (SO/Highland Mills, NY) and Sonja Boyko (FR/Babylon, NY) recorded an 8-3 win at second doubles, while Nicole Sliwinski (JR/Newington, CT) and Marissa Woods (SO/Deer Park, NY) battled to an 8-5 victory at the No. 3 spot.

Singles competition followed a similar script, with the Panthers winning comfortably at all six flights.

At second and third singles, DeCicco and Biagiotti recorded 6-0, 6-0 and 6-4, 6-2 victories, respectively. Boyko shutout Doberen, 6-0,6-0, at the No. 3 spot, while Maria Del Carmen Motyka (FR/New York, NY) secured her first collegiate singles win with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at the sixth flight.

Harris was awarded a No. 1 win by default due to injury and Sliwinski notched the point at fifth singles to cap the Panther scoring and secure the 9-0 home victory.

Purchase looks to continue its winning ways this Wednesday at Western Connecticut State University. The non-conference match is slated for 3:30 p.m.
