Panthers Lose Early Lead, Fall to Visiting FSC in Skyline Showdown

PURCHASE, NY – A late rally by the Purchase College women's basketball team was not enough as the Farmingdale State Rams defeated the Panthers, 68-57, on PC's home court Tuesday night.

Purchase poured in a season-best showing in the first quarter with 19 points. After FSC's Anna Zaborowska broke the scoring ice with a three-point bucket, Purchase went on an 8-5 run to take the lead by two (9-7).  The Panthers connected on back-to-back triples from Shadai Plowden (SO/Yonkers, NY) and Arta Krasniqi (SR/Bronx, NY), respectively, to close the quarter with a 19-14 lead.

Farmingdale erased a five-point deficit with seven unanswered points early in the second quarter. Turnovers plagued Purchase in the stanza, as the Panthers committed six giveaways which turned into seven points for the Rams. At the half, FSC led 29-24.

Farmingdale grew its lead to 11 points (38-27) with a Nia Miller layup midway through the third quarter. Purchase slowly clawed back, cutting the deficit down to five points (46-41) with just 10 minutes remaining in the game.

The FSC offense ignited again to start the fourth quarter, but Purchase answered back with a 6-0 run which forced Ram head coach Mark Dellecave to call a timeout.

Both teams went scoreless for the next two minutes before Purchase fired in seven unanswered points to tie the game at 57 apiece. The Panthers, however, struggled to keep the rally going, as the Rams jumped back out in front and put the game away with an 11-0 run to close the fourth quarter.

Farmingdale was led by Zaborowska's game-high 26 points. The junior guard also collected eight rebounds and a pair of assists. Alexis Hunter aided the winning effort with 17 points, three assists and led all defensive players with 10 boards. Jami Cardenas capped the double-digit scoring for the Rams with 13 points.

Krasniqi poured in 20 points and collected seven rebounds to lead Purchase. Plowden recorded 17 points and seven boards, while junior guard Dejeana Peoples (New York, NY) chipped in with seven points and seven rebounds.

In defeat, Purchase drops to 2-15 overall and 1-11 in the Skyline Conference. The visiting Rams move to 8-9 on the season and 6-7 in the league.

The Panthers return to their home court this Thursday to play host to Yeshiva University. The Skyline matchup is slated for 8 p.m.
