Stellar Second Quarter Sparks CMSV Victory

Despite loss, Purchase's Shadai Plowden pours in game-leading 19 points

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent women's basketball team produced a 13-2 run in the second quarter en route to a 63-47 victory over Purchase College Wednesday evening at the Peter Jay Sharp Center.

The host Dolphins took a five-point lead (18-13) after the opening 10 minutes of action and never looked back. The team continued to connect in the second quarter, shooting 50 percent (6-of-12) from the floor while holding the Panthers to just eight percent shooting (1-of-12).

Despite an offensive surge by Purchase after the break, CMSV still held a 14-point advantage heading into the final 10 minutes of play. The Dolphins converted three Purchase turnovers into five points and connected on 83 percent (5-of-6) shooting from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter to secure the Skyline victory.

DarNeisha Brice led the home team with 17 points and four steals. Ashley Martin joined the double-digit scoring effort with 11 points and eight rebounds, while aria Rheams chipped in with nine points and a game-best 11 boards.

Purchase sophomore forward Shadai Plowden (Yonkers, NY) led all scorers with a notable 19 points and 10 rebounds. Wednesday's game marked the second double-double of the season for the young Panther.

Senior guard Dejeana Peoples (New York, NY) connected on 3-of-8 from three-point range, finishing with nine points and six rebounds, while sophomore guard Amber Rodriguez (Queens, NY) added eight points and a pair of rebounds. Senior guards Arta Krasniqi (Bronx, NY) and Alfa DeJesus (Bronx, NY) capped the Purchase scoring effort with six and five points, respectively.

With the win, CMSV improved to 7-4 on the season and 5-2 in the Skyline Conference. Purchase dropped to 2-9 overall and 1-5 in the league.

Purchase looks to get back in the win column this Saturday when the team travels to league foe Farmingdale State. Tipoff from Walter A. Lynch Sports Center slated for noon.
