OLD WESTBURY, NY - The Purchase College men's basketball team scored a season-high 106 points Saturday afternoon, as the Panthers rolled to a road win over Old Westbury in a Skyline Conference battle.
Purchase won the Battle of the Panthers, 106-91, finishing with its highest point total since November 15th, 2016 during a 112-77 win over Vaughn College.
Purchase now sits at 13-6 overall and 8-2 in the Skyline. As for Old Westbury, the team dropped to 11-8 and 7-3 respectively.
The Panthers' starting lineup shined all game, as the quintet of
Jorge Perdomo (JR/Bronx, NY),
Elijah Harris (SR/Flushing, NY),
Elijah Lott (SR/Albany, NY),
Maxx Miller (SR/White Plains, NY) and
Andre Peguero (JR/Boynton Beach, FL) combined for 101 of the 106 points Saturday.
Despite the huge point total, Purchase actually trailed at halftime by the score of 46-40. But once the second half began, Purchase was a team reborn.
To begin the frame, the visitors scored the first eight points to grab the lead, 48-46. On the following possession, Old Westbury converted a layup to tie things at 48-48. However, on Purchase's next possession, Miller drilled a jumper to put the guests ahead for good, as they never trailed again in the contest.
In fact, not only did the Panthers not trail the rest of the game, they quickly pushed their advantage to double-digits and lead by that margin most of the half. Purchase was able to establish such a lead thanks to some truly remarkable shooting, as the team shot 73.5% from the field in the second half to light-up the hosts for 66 points.
While Old Westbury also enjoyed a successful day on the offensive end, the hosts just couldn't slow down Purchase's attack.
For the game, Purchase shot 57.1% from the field, while Old Westbury finished just 44.9%. The visiting Panthers also dominated the host Panthers in the rebounding battle, finishing with a 47-26 advantage in the category.
Second-chance points (16-7) and points in the paint (64-36) also heavily favored Purchase in the win.
Perdomo finished with a game and season-high 28 points, as he went 10-for-16 from the field.
Lott recorded 24 points and seven assists, while Miller added 17 points and six rebounds.
Harris (20 points and 12 rebounds) and Peguero (12 points and 13 rebounds) each finished with double-doubles for Purchase.
For Old Westbury, four players finished in double figures as Charles Wingate (JR/Baldwin, NY) scored a team-high 25 points.
