RIVERDALE, NY - The Purchase College men's volleyball team earned a second-straight Skyline Conference win Monday evening, topping the College of Mount Saint Vincent in straight sets.
Sets scores for the contest were 25-9, 25-22 and 25-18. With the victory, the Panthers are now 4-7 overall and 2-1 in the Skyline. Meanwhile, the Dolphins dropped to 2-14 and 2-2, respectively.Â
From the start, Purchase dominated. During the team's first-set romp, the guests hit .421 with 10 kills to just two errors. In the second frame, the Panthers' hitting percentage dipped to .205, but their kills went up to 14.Â
Despite the high-kills mark, Purchase actually trailed early in the second set, falling behind 7-3. The guests answered by scoring five points in a row and from that point on, either were tied or led the rest of the set. From there, the Panthers extended their margin to as many as five points before the hosts started to close in late.
The Dolphins got within a point right at the end, down 23-22, but a kill from
Joe Higgins (SO/College Point, NY) and a Mount Saint Vincent attacking error gave the guests the points need to sneak out the win.Â
In the final frame, Purchase led from start to finish, though the Dolphins kept things close most of the set. It wasn't until the final stretch that the guests finally pulled away, as they scored six of the final seven points to secure the 25-18 win.
On the night, the Panthers hit .268 with 32 kills to just 10 errors.
Jeremiah Huntt (SO/Bronx, NY) led all players with nine kills, while
Chris Posillico (SO/Bay Shore, NY) added five kills and five digs.
Idris Idris (FR/Bronx, NY) tallied 21 assists in the win.Â
