PURCHASE, N.Y. - Today marks the launch of the new Purchase College Athletics weekly series called, #FlashbackFriday.
#FlashbackFriday will be brought to you each Friday and highlight a former student-athlete who has left a lasting impact on their team/program and the athletics department alike.
For the inaugural launch of #FlashbackFriday,
Kelly Turtell '18 of the women's lacrosse team was picked to lead the way following a truly dominant four-year run at Purchase College.
Turtell (Farmingdale, NY) first joined the Panthers as a freshman in 2015 and immediately had a major affect on the team, finishing with 60 points (34g, 26a) and 32 ground balls. At the time, the 60 points were the second-most ever by a Purchase College women's lacrosse player in a single season.
With Turtell and fellow freshman
Zoe Hines '18 leading the offense, Purchase earned its best record in school history (11-4) and its first-ever appearance in the Skyline Conference Playoffs.
In year two, Turtell continued to smash Panther records, as she finished with 71 points (30g, 41a) and became just the second player ever to cross the 70-point threshold in a season. Her point total led all Purchase players in 2016 and for her efforts, she was named to the All-Skyline Conference First Team. Purchase finished the year 9-4 overall and claimed the No. 3 seed in the Skyline Playoffs.
While Turtell's offensive numbers "dipped" slightly in 2017 to the tune of 53 points (36g, 17a), she more than made up for it with her play across the board as she finished with career-highs in draw controls and ground balls. As a result, Purchase claimed a third-straight birth in the Skyline Playoffs.
For her senior season in 2018, Turtell entered with redemption on her mind following a "down" junior year.
Not only did the Farmingdale native deliver on the redemption arc, she crushed everything in her path en route to a career-best 73 points (46g, 27a), 53 draw controls and 29 ground balls.
With those numbers, Turtell led the Panthers in goals, assists, points and draw controls as senior, and closed out her illustrious tenure with another All-Skyline Conference First Team selection.
For her career, Turtell is first all-time in Panther history in points (257) and assists (111) and second in goals with 146.
Following her graduation in May 2018, Turtell continued to work in the field of athletics, most recently at GF Sports as a Community Relations Coordinator. To read more about her time there,

There is no doubt that
Kelly Turtell left her mark on the Purchase College women's lacrosse team. Many of her records still stand years later and show no signs of being caught anytime soon. Even if they are surpassed in the future, the legacy of Turtell will forever endure among the Purchase College Athletics community.
