PURCHASE, N.Y. – Behind goals from
Marlon Matute and
Colman Cassidy, the Purchase men's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw with Old Westbury in Skyline Conference action Tuesday night.
After a scoreless first half, Purchase (4-5-1, 1-4-1 Skyline) broke the ice in the 67th minute with a Matute (FR/Staten Island, NY) one-timer off the assist from
Keven Garcia (FR/Port Chester, NY). Garcia sent the perfect cross from the right side to the feet of Matute, who flicked a shot into the left corner of the net.
The lead was short-lived, however, as Old Westbury fired back with two unanswered goals in the next 12 minutes to take a 2-1 advantage. On an OW corner kick, Jah-Meer Sallet sent a short pass to Jonathon Hernandez. The duo earned the double assist as a cross from Hernandez to Remberto Ramirez resulted in the first goal for the visitors. Nicolas Puelinckx later scored the unassisted go-ahead goal with a shot off a loose ball inside the box at 78:26.
Both sides would exchange shots in the minutes to follow but it was only Purchase that would find success. Cassidy (JR/Brooklyn, NY) netted the equalizer in the 84th minute after collecting a through pass from teammate
Juan Arboleda (SR/New Rochelle, NY) and beating the last OW defender. Cassidy's shot sailed past visiting goalie James Perciballi and into the right corner of the goal.
Purchase had three scoring chances in overtime but were shut down by Perciballi every time, resulting in the 2-2 tie.
PC netminder
Mario Olmedo (JR/East Elmhurst, NY) finished with seven saves over 110 minutes, while Perciballi capped the game with eight stops.
Up next, Purchase will travel to Skyline foe Yeshiva University on Thursday. Kickoff is slated for 8 p.m.
