NEWBURGH, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's soccer team was defeated by Mount Saint Mary College Saturday afternoon, falling in the Skyline Conference matchup by the score of 5-1.
With the result, the Panthers dropped to 4-7-1 overall and 1-6-1 in the Skyline. Meanwhile, the Knights improved to 7-5-1 and 6-1-1 respectively.
From the get-go, Mount St. Mary was in the driver's seat. The hosts scored their opening goal in the fourth minute, before doubling that advantage in the 22nd. Mount St. Mary added two more in the first half to carry a 4-0 lead into the break.
Once the second half began, it only took 25 seconds for the Knights to find the back of the goal once more, pushing the margin to 5-0.
The Panthers never quit in the effort though and were rewarded with a goal of their own in the 61st minute, when
Colman Cassidy (JR/Brooklyn, NY) scored off a feed from
Devonte Dawson (JR/Yonkers, NY).Â
On the day, Mount St. Mary outshot Purchase, 16-10 overall and won the corner kick battle, 7-1.
The guests entered the contest missing both of their goalies, meaningÂ
Cristian Ishoo (SR/Tarrytown, NY) made the emergency start in goal. The senior defender finished with two saves for the Panthers.Â
