FLUSHING, N.Y. –
Olivia Menchell posted her sixth singles victory of the season Saturday, but it was not enough as the Purchase College women's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision to non-conference opponent Hunter College at the USTA National Tennis Center.
In defeat, the Panthers fall to 5-4 overall, while the host Hawks improve to 7-2 on the season.
Menchell (FR/Weston, CT) posted the only win for Purchase in her debut appearance at second singles. She battled Hunter's Yana Rabkova to a 4-6, 6-1, 10-7 victory. With the win, Menchell earned her first No. 2 singles win of the season (1-0) and pushed her total singles record to a respectable 6-2 overall.
The Panthers will be back on the courts again tomorrow—this time at home for a Senior Day match against Yeshiva University. Festivities will kick off at 9:45 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m. match start.
