PURCHASE, NY – A fast start for St. Joseph's College (LI) loomed large in an 8-1 win at Purchase Saturday afternoon.
SJC (6-3, 3-1 Skyline) senior Savannah McMaster charged the Golden Eagle offense, tallying a hat trick. McMaster opened up the scoring just 17 seconds into the game with an unassisted goal, shot far post, on a breakaway. She added another at 22:03 and would later secure the hat trick performance with a goal in the second half. Teammate Brooke Esposito recorded the assist for both goals.
The visitors led 6-0 at the half backed by scores from Esposito, Karina Chacon and Abbey Curcio, respectively.
Purchase (2-4, 1-3 Skyline) got on the board after the break thanks to a beautiful free kick by
Kristen Purcell (JR/Sauquoit, NY) that found the back of the net at 52:42.
The Golden Eagles fired back, however, as McMaster's notched her third and Chacon slipped one past Panther netminder
Haley Cascio (SO/Deer Park, NY) to make it 8-1 with less than 10 minutes remaining on the clock.
Cascio recorded a season-high 14 saves in the loss.
SJC starting goalie Mikayla Ritter stopped all five Purchase attempts in the first half. Madelyn Hunter came off the bench in the second half, giving up just one goal to secure the win for the visitors.
Purchase returns to its home pitch tomorrow for a non-conference game against Lehman College beginning at 4 p.m.
