Panthers Roll to First Win of 2021

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's volleyball team earned its first win of the year Saturday afternoon, cruising past the Cardinals of York College in the non-conference matchup.

Set scores for the contest were 25-14, 25-6 and 25-10. With the win, the Panthers are now 1-7 overall, while the match was the first of 2021 for York.

From the get-go, Purchase has its foot on the gas and never relented. The hosts scored the first eight points of the day and led by as many as 13 points in the opening set.

That trend continued in set two, as the Panthers scored 18 of the first 20 points in the frame. Finally, in set three, Purchase opened the stanza with 15-straight points to roll to wins in the set and match.

Overall, Purchase hit .326 over the game and recorded 23 kills to just eight errors.

Individually, Pamella Gonzalez (JR/Bronx, NY) powered the offense, as she finished with 13 aces, eight kills and four digs. Lilith Bastek-Ochoa (FR/Sag Harbor, NY) chipped in on that effort with six kills.

Karina Medina (SR/Brooklyn, NY) tallied 16 assists, six digs and three aces in the win, while Skyla Schoppmeyer (SR/Oakdale, NY) added six aces and four assists.

Up next for the Panthers is a return to Skyline Conference action, as the team hosts the College of Mount Saint Vincent on October 6th at 7 p.m. You can follow along right here.
