PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's volleyball team was defeated by the Dolphins of Mount Saint Vincent Wednesday night, falling in straights sets to the Skyline Conference foe.
Set scores for the match were 25-17, 25-7 and 25-15.
With the loss, the Panthers now sit at 1-8 overall and 0-5 in the conference. As for Mount Saint Vincent, the team is now 9-7 and 2-3 respectively.
To begin the night, the hosts fell behind early by the score of 4-1. However, Purchase quickly rebounded, tying the contest at 5-5 and later 8-8, before grabbing their biggest lead of the set at 11-9. The guests then responded by scoring three straight to regain their advantage, before Purchase scored three of the next four points to make it 14-13.
From there, something clicked for the Dolphins as they proceeded to reel off seven-straight points and 12 of the final 15 scores in the opening set, taking it by the score of 25-17.
That pace continued in set two, as the guests raced out to leads of 12-1 and 16-3, before winning the frame, 25-7.
In the final stanza, an early five-point run gave Mount Saint Vincent a comfortable lead but the Panthers went down swinging. Eventually, the hosts cut the deficit to just three points but ultimately fell in the set by the score of 25-15.
Overall, the guests finished with 36 kills on .239 hitting, while the hosts tallied a -.100 mark and 13 kills.Â
Samantha Fasce (JR/Yorktown Heights, NY) led the way for the Panthers, as she compiled a team-best 5.5 points (three kills, an ace, a solo block and a block assist).
Purchase also got three kills apiece from
Pamella Gonzalez (JR/Bronx, NY) and
Lilith Bastek-Ochoa (FR/Sag Harbor, NY), while
Skyla Schoppmeyer (SR/Oakdale, NY) added a team-high 11 digs.
Up next for the Panthers is more Skyline Conference action, as the team travels to Old Westbury on October 8th at 7 p.m.
