PURCHASE, N.Y. – Purchase College senior forward
Rebecca Colgan scored five goals and added an assist as seven different players found the back of the net in a 12-1 victory over Yeshiva University on Tuesday.
The win marked the second for the Panthers' 2021 season as the team advanced to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in the league. Yeshiva slipped to 0-2 on the season, 0-2 in league play.
Colgan (SR/Valley Stream, NY) and rookie attacker
Emily Tierney (FR/Poughkeepsie, NY) combined for a trio of unassisted goals in the opening five minutes of the game.
The Maccabees put a stop to the Panther run with a goal of their own at 16:51. With the assist from Dafna Levine, Elizabeth Pavel slipped one past Purchase goalie
Haley Cascio (SO/Deer Park, NY) on a breakaway opportunity.
Purchase fired back to build a six-goal lead at halftime on the strength of two scored by Colgan and one apiece from sophomore midfielder
Harlee Lucier (Parish, NY) and senior defender
Diana Gilday (Bellrose, NY). The goals marked collegiate-firsts for both Lucier and Gilday.
After the break, the Panthers picked up where they left off and lit up the board another five times secure the 12-1 victory.
Junior forward
Kristen Purcell (Sauquoit, NY) notched back-to-back goals at 49:21 and 51:59 and Colgan struck again in the 60th minute. Senior defenders
Brianny Marin (Port Chester, NY) and
Allie Scarpa (Vineland, NJ) netted their first goals of the season and capped the scoring in the game in the 77th and 85th minutes, respectively.
Despite being tagged with the loss, Maccabee netminder Sophie Dubin registered an impressive 22 saves on the evening.
Cascio finished with three saves over the opening 45 minutes, while Panther rookie
Alina Vazquez (FR/Saugerties, NY)—in her collegiate goalkeeping debut—closed the game with four saves.
All told, Purchase won the shot differential (47-16) and held a slight edge in corner kicks (7-6).
To boot, the Panther offense teamed up for a memorable Orange and Blue performance, helping first-year head coach
Graham Fortunato earn his second collegiate victory behind the bench.
Purchase will be back in action Saturday with a 7 p.m. home game against Skyline foe Sarah Lawrence College.
