PURCHASE, N.Y. – Purchase College continued its winning ways on Wednesday with a 7-2 Skyline Conference victory over Sarah Lawrence College.
The win puts the host Panthers (5-2, 3-1 Skyline) in the No. 2 spot for league standings, while the visiting Gryphons (5-3, 1-2 Skyline) remain in a four-way tie at No. 3.
Purchase jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles play. First to finish were
Olivia Menchell (FR/Weston, CT) and
Elaina Coppola (SO/White Plains, NY) at second doubles. The dynamic duo earned the win with a score of 8-1.
Isabel Biagiotti (SR/Highland Mills, NY) and
Madeline Makowski (JR/Greenlawn, NY) followed with an 8-4 triumph at third doubles, and the Panthers' No. 1 tandem of
Nikita Kordzielewska (JR/Stepnica, Poland) and
Laine Neufeld (SO/Trumbull, CT) awarded Purchase the doubles sweep with an 8-6 victory.
The Panthers went on to win four of their six singles matches to secure the 7-2 win. Making her first appearance for the match, Purchase's
Kali Secrest (SO/Hartsdale, NY) netted the No. 5 win by a score of 6-2, 6-3. Neufeld, Biagiotti and Coppola aided the scoring effort with wins at second, fourth and sixth singles, respectively.
Sarah Lawrence earned its two points at the first and third singles. Simi Rao won at the No. 1 spot (7-5, 6-3), while Sasha Connor battled for the tally at third singles (3-6, 6-3, 11-9).
Up next, Purchase will take on St. Joseph's College (LI). The Skyline matchup is slated for this Saturday at 12 p.m. in Patchogue, NY.
