Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Panthers Caged at Wesleyan

Middletown, CT – Purchase College ran into a hot shooting Wesleyan squad Wednesday evening at SIlloway Gymnasium.

The host Cardinals (3-0) broke the school record for most made three-pointers in a game (20) as well as the school's single-game assists record (37) en route to taking a 109-60 non-conference victory.

James Brady (SR/Yonkers, NY) paced Purchase (0-3) with 18 points over 33 minutes, while Malcolm Hansford-Whyte (SR/Queens, NY) produced 16 points and a game-high five steals.

Wesleyan took control of the game early, pouring in seven unanswered before a Hansford-Whyte jumper at 18:21 broke the scoring ice for Purchase.

For every shot Purchase made, the Cardinals would rattle off two or three more. The hosts did most of their damage on the wing, going 11-for-20 (55 percent) to lead by as many as 30 points in the opening 20 minutes.

At the break, Wesleyan held a 57-32 advantage.

The offensive surge from the hosts spilled into the second half as well, as the Cardinals netted four-consecutive triples in the opening minutes.

The margin would balloon to 49 points (95-46) following a Nicky Johnson steal and Antone Walker layup off the fastbreak. The two sides finished the game with the same 49-point margin at 109-60 in favor of Wesleyan.

Wesleyan produced a 9-for-18 effort (50 percent) from beyond the arc in the second half. The performance brought the game-total to 20—a school record—surpassing the previous record of 18 set on Feb. 20, 2015 against Hamilton.

Wesleyan guard Preston Maccoux recorded a career-high 23 points, including 17 in the first half.  He went 7-for-10 from three-point range, falling just two shy of the single-game program record. He also added six assists and four rebounds.

The Panthers look to bounce back when they return to the court to open their Skyline slate on Nov. 23. Purchase will travel to league foe Yeshiva University for an 8 p.m. tipoff.
