PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's basketball team was defeated in a Skyline Conference matchup Saturday afternoon, falling to Manhattanville College on the road by the score of 88-47.
With the result, the Panthers dropped to 0-6 overall and 0-4 in the conference. Meanwhile, the Valiants of Manhattanville stayed perfect at 8-0 and 4-0, respectively.
The two squads started the contest with some back and forth action, before the Valiants edged ahead late in the first quarter for a 22-15 lead. From there, the hosts exploded offensively to the tune of 29 second-quarter points to carry a 51-28 margin into the halftime break.
Once the second half began, Manhattanville continued to cruise in the contest as Purchase never got closer than 22 points the rest of the way.
In the win, the Valiants shot 53.3 percent overall and 40 percent from 3-point range. Meanwhile, the Panthers finished with marks of 29.3 percent and 26.7 percent, respectively.
Purchase's leading scorer on the day was
Ariella Johnson (SO/Brooklyn, NY), as she finished with 13 points and four rebounds.
Shamoni Berrios (SO/Bronx, NY) added eight points and six rebounds in the loss.
