PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College softball team lost a pair of contests Saturday afternoon, falling to the Knights of Mount Saint Mary College by the scores of 10-2 and 21-0.
With the losses, the Panthers dropped to 0-6 overall and 0-5 in Skyline games. As for the Knights, the doubleheader marked the opening games of the season.
Despite the result, it was the home team that actually struck first in game one, as
Alexandria Perez (JR/Bronx, NY) led off the bottom of the first inning with a double to center field.
After a fly out,
Kelly Agostini (SR/Centereach, NY) drew a walk while Perez advanced to third on a passed ball. Agostini then stole second to put two runners in scoring position forÂ
Julia Marsala (FR/Shoreham, NY).
Marsala came up big in the spot, as her single to right field scored both runners to put the hosts in front, 2-0.Â
After that point though, nearly everything when Mount Saint Mary's way. The guests gained the lead in the second inning, as they scored three runs. From there, the Knights opened up the offense with four runs in the third, two in the fifth and one more in the seventh to secure the 10-2 win.
As for the Purchase bats, they finished with four hits in game one, as Marsala recorded the first multi-hit game and RBIs of her career. Another first during the contest included
Haley Maerz's (SR/Goshen, NY) first-career hit, as she singled up the middle in the bottom of the second.Â
While game one remained close early on, Mount Saint Mary College wasted no time in game two, as they totaled 21 runs over the first four innings.Â

Hannah Cronin (FR/Granby, CT) tallied two singles andÂ
Zanaia Godette (SO/Queens, NY) added a single in the defeat.
Agostini was tagged with both losses on the mound.Â
Up next for the softball team is a rematch with the Knights of Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, NY. The doubleheader was scheduled for tomorrow at noon by has been postponed due to weather. It will now be played Monday, March 29 at a time to be decided.Â
