Purchase, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's tennis team wrapped up weekend action with a home match against St. Joseph's College (LI) on Saturday.
Faced with a shortened lineup due to injuries, the Panthers squared off against the undefeated Golden Eagles and performed well, but ultimately came out on the losing end of a 6-3 Skyline decision.
Purchase (0-2, 0-2 SKY) opened up the scoring and tallied its first win of the season at first doubles.
Raquelle DeCicco (SR/Kingston, NY) and
Nikita Kordzielewska (SO/Poland) dominated the top spot with a commanding 8-2 victory over Jessica Jones and Mackenzie Martocci.
St. Joe's (4-0, 4-0 SKY) picked up the win at No. 2 doubles, defeating
Madeline Makowski and
Kali Secrest by a score of 8-2. The Golden Eagles recorded a win by walkover at the third flight and later again at fifth and sixth singles.
DeCicco and Kordzielewska stayed hot in singles play, cruising to 6-0, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-2 wins at the first and second positions, respectively. SJC, however, answered back with tallies at the third and fourth singles to secure the 6-3 win.
The Panthers look to bounce back on Tuesday when the team heads to Sarah Lawrence College for a Skyline match starting at 6 p.m.
