BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's tennis team earned its first win of the 2020-21 season Tuesday night, as it topped the Gryphons of Sarah Lawrence College by the score of 5-4. 

Purchase started off the night with a pair of wins in doubles action, as the No. 1 duo of Raquelle DeCicco (SR/Kingston, NY) and Nikita Kordzielewska (SO/Poland) cruised to an 8-0 win, while Laine Neufeld (FR/Trumbull, CT) and Madeline Makowski (SO/Greenlawn, NY) earned an 8-5 victory at the No. 2 spot.

From there, the No. 3 doubles matchup and No. 6 singles went to the Gryphons by default, tying the contest at 2-2 each. 

As things moved to singles play, Sarah Lawrence struck first with a win at the No. 5 spot, before the Panthers got wins from DeCicco and Kordzielewska to push their count to four total wins.

From there, Sarah Lawrence took the No. 4 singles matchup to make the score 4-4, leaving the No. 3 contest as the deciding matchup. Luckily for the Panthers, Neufeld breezed to an easy win, as she took both sets by the score of 6-2. 

With the win, the Panthers are now 1-2 overall and in Skyline Conference play. Meanwhile, the Gryphons dropped to 1-5 in both categories.
