PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's tennis team suffered a loss Saturday afternoon, falling to the Valiants of Mahanttanville College by the score of 6-3.
With the result, the Panthers dropped to 1-3 overall on the year, while Manhattanville clinched its spot in the Skyline Conference playoffs and now sits at 3-1.
The Valiants opened up the day with a pair of 8-0 wins in doubles action, before securing all four singles matchups. Purchase received its three wins before the match began due to Manhattanville traveling with just four players.Â
Once the action started,
Nikita Kordzielewska (SO/Poland) provided the most competitive performance for Purchase, as she pushed the first set of her No. 1 singles matchup to a tiebreaker, before falling by the score of 7-6. Then in set two, she recorded a few games but ultimately lost, 6-3.
In No. 2 singles,
Laine Neufeld (FR/Trumbull, CT) won a pair of games in her 6-2, 6-0 defeat, while
Madeline Makowski (SO/Greenlawn, NY) tallied one game in her No. 4 singles' loss.Â
Up next for the Panthers is more Skyline action, as the team looks to rebound against the Maccabees of Yeshiva University. That matchup is set for tomorrow (5/2) at 10 a.m.Â
