PURCHASE, N.Y. – Purchase College recorded one hit over two games as Manhattanville College swept a Skyline Conference doubleheader from the Panthers on Friday afternoon. The visiting Valiants won the first game, 17-0, before taking the nightcap by a 22-0 score.
The losses dropped the Panthers to 0-10 on the season while Manhattanville improved to 3-2 overall.
Purchase opened strong in game one, recording a quick three outs in the top of the first inning. In the bottom half, Panther junior centerfielder
Alexandria Perez (Bronx, NY) slashed a line drive up the middle and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Purchase struggled to keep the momentum going though as the next two batters went down swinging and Perez was later caught stealing for the final out of the inning.
Manhattanville starter Charli Shinstine (1-2) fired in 10 strikeouts without a single hit over the next four innings to record the win.
In game two, Purchase's offense remained cold as Manhattanville freshman Kylie Pester (1-0) tossed a five-inning (mercy rule) perfect game. The rookie collected 10 strikeouts in the debut appearance and was tagged with her first career win.
Senior
Kelly Agostini (Centereach, NY) (0-10) put in 10 innings of work over the two games for Purchase. Despite her efforts in the circle, the veteran Panther was tagged with both losses.
Purchase and Manhattanville will return to the diamond tomorrow for another Skyline doubleheader. The Valiants will play host for the twinbill which is slated to start at noon.
