PURCHASE, NY — The Purchase College women's tennis team opened 2021 home action with a 9-0 shutout win over Brooklyn College Tuesday afternoon.
With the non-conference victory, the host Panthers advance to 2-0 overall. The visiting Bulldogs drop to 0-2 in defeat.
Purchase opened with a complete sweep over doubles to jump out to an early 3-0 advantage. The Panthers' No. 1 doubles tandem of
Nikita Kordzielewska and
Laine Neufeld posted an 8-3 victory, while
Julie Shuett and
Kali Secrest earned the win at third doubles with a score of 8-2.
Olivia Menchell and
Elaina Coppola completed the doubles sweep for Purchase after battling to an 8-5 triumph at the No. 2 spot.
In singles play, Secrest was first to finish, recording a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 6 spot. Coppola secured the Purchase victory after defeating Allison Dubrow, 6-0, 6-1 at fifth singles.
Sonja Boyko and Menchell pushed the home team's advantage to 7-0 with wins at the third and fourth flights, respectively. Neufeld earned the eighth point for Purchase at No. 2 singles, defeating Monica Capon, 6-4, 6-2, while Kordzielewska completed the sweep over Brooklyn with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 tiebreaker set at the No. 1 spot.
Up next, the Panthers are set to open Skyline Conference action on the road against Farmingdale State on Sept. 21.
